Ikeme Out Of Alexandria Battle

Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is out of Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt on Tuesday.

Ikeme, who was in goal in the 1-1 draw at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Friday is reported to be unwell and will miss the game in Alexandria.

The Wolves shot-stopper has a stomach bug that has prevented him from training since Friday’s game and has been ruled out of the game on Tuesday.

“After the game last Friday, Carl has been struggling with some stomach upset and has not allowed him train with the rest of the squad,” team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran told thenff.com

“He is stable but needs a lot of rest to be back in 100 per cent shape for the kind of high profile game that we have on Tuesday. Considering the amount of travel involved as well, it is best we give him a break.”

Interim Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia is optimistic Ikeme’s absence will not affect the Super Eagles' chances in the game against Egypt in Alexandria.

“We will surely miss Carl but the good thing with our team is that we have capable replacements in every department,” Siasia said.

“Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are still here and any one of these two will help us to get the job done in Alexandria.”

Nigeria drew 1-1 with Egypt in Kaduna last Friday and will hope to get a better result in Alexandria despite the loss of Ikeme.
